Welcome to Year 4!
This term out topic is all about the local area! We are going to be looking into the mines and comparing our life to how the miners lived. We will be studying ‘Street Child’ by Berlie Doherty. In Science we will be looking at sound and the states of matter.
We are also having a big focus on encouraging all the children to read so it is vital that the children are bringing their reading records into class.
Ideally, children should be listened to read every day. We ask that children read at least three times a week at home. Please write a comment in your child's reading diary where they can earn DoJo points class and it will go towards their Bronze, Silver and Gold reading badges. Any child who has not read at home will spend some of their break time reading with an adult.
Photos of class events, visits and successes will be shared through the Class Dojo app. Please make sure you check it regularly to see what is happening in your child’s class and use it as an opportunity to discuss with you child what they have been doing,
Year 4 have PE on a Thursday and Friday afternoon.
Children will have weekly spellings to make sure their vocabulary is continuously developing. Children will also have a reading book to take home that they should be trying to read some of every day! Other work children do relating to the topic will always be celebrated in class on the homework wall. This can include research, pictures and much more.
Times Table Rockstars
Times Tables are a big thing in Year 4 and every week we will be having a times table competition to see who is the biggest Rockstar! The top 3 Rockstars of the week will have their own poster up on the wall of the classroom for all to see. There will also be competitions among the class and across the school.
